I really like economics. It is a hobby. It is a truly nerdy hobby, but I can’t help it. It combines math, reason, psychology, human behavior, and irony.
I am a member of the American Economics Association ( https://www.aeaweb.org ) and enjoy reading through the papers and works. Much of this stuff is dry and often times over my head. However, there is enough interest for me that I enjoy finding out what others are working on. Economics applies math and data to human behavior and often times finds paradox, irony, and counter intuitive behavior where people act against their own interests for startling reasons.
One of my favorite places is the Conversable Economist, Timothy Taylor, who has an amazing knack for summarizing some of the big papers into understandable chunks for wanna-be chumps such as myself. http://conversableeconomist.blogspot.com
